Crimes Against Criminals

by Robert G. Ingersol, 1906

This book measures 8 1/2" x 6" and has 59 pages. This is listed in McKenna as having been published in 1906 as a second limited run of 174, signed by Elbert Hubbard II. I am certain that is wrong since there is no other book signed by Elbert Hubbard II prior to Elbert Hubbard's death, and it just doesn't fit anything. I believe this was more likely published in the early 1920's, since it has many of the same characteristics of books from that time, and during that time Elbert Hubbard II made several limited editions of books the shops had published earlier. Printed on Japan Vellum, bound in boards with a cloth back-strap. The title page is rather hastily illuminated (again confirming my suspicions it was not printed in '06. 59 pages. Though I have not checked page by page, I believe this is identical to the 1906 version, of which 174 copies were made. Interestingly, there are only a couple other books where identical versions were made by Elbert Hubbard II, A Christmas Carol in 1922 being one of them (it is identical to the 1902 version but for "copyright 1922" being printed on the verso of the title page, which states "1902").
