So Here Then Are Dreams

by Olive Schreiner, 1928

1928 Lorenz Schwartz binding

This book is dated 1928 on the spine and appears to be a Lorenz Schwartz rebind of the 1924 variant. The book is illumined but not signed. The book measures 11 1/2" x 8" and has 107 pages. It was printed in a "limited edition" of 1983 copies on Roycroft water-marked paper. The regular 1924 edition binding was paper over boards with a suede spine. McKenna notes this book as being 1924 but it is dated 1928.

LORENZ SCHWARTZ --- This Danish binder worked at the bindery from about 1907 to 1915 and again, from 1928 to 1947. Schwartz learned his craft in Germany. He came to the United States in 1904 and worked for Otto Zahn in Memphis before joining the Roycroft. His books are signed with one of several variations of his monogram. His finest productions are Masterpieces comparable in quality to Louis Herman Kinder's work.
