The book measures 8 1/2" x 5 3/4" and has 175 pages. The book is printed on Kelmscott handmade paper in Old Style Antiqua type in two colors. This book was printed in an edition of 970 and an edition of 100, both of which were typically bound in suede. The edition of 970 shown above was specially bound by Louis Kinder and the first forty books of the edition were specially illumined. The edition of 100 has a blind stamped cover designed by W. W. Denslow and special water color sketch illumination. Both editions of The Essays of Elia  were signed in Elbert Hubbard's name. The specially illumined edition bound in suede is listed in the 1899 catalog and sold for $5.00 The regular edition with just initials illumined sold for $2.50
