Garnett and The Brindled Cow

by Alice Hubbard, 1913

The book  measures 9 3/8" x 6" and has 24 pages. The body of the text is set in Kennerly. This limited edition of 1003 was printed on French folded, laid paper with marbled paper over boards. The spine and corners are leather. 400 copies were printed on Japan Vellum and bound either full Levant or as depicted above.  There are variants of this binding that were produced a few years after the original printing that have a blind stamped Art Nouveau design on the leather. Many of these books have split at the spine over time due to the design of the book. All copies were signed and numbered by Alice Hubbard. This book is not a variant par se, it was just bound a little different. I think we call all agree that this is not your typical Garnett binding! The interior is the same as normal editions. There is an edition of 21 that is not listed in McKenna which was printed on Japan Vellum but it is not known if any of these were ever bound and sold.
