Garnett and The Brindled Cow

by Alice Hubbard 1913

The book  measures 9 3/8" x 6" and has 24 pages. The body of the text is set in Kennerly. This limited edition of 1003 was printed on French folded, laid paper with marbled paper over boards. The spine and corners are leather. 400 copies were printed on Japan Vellum and bound either full Levant or with marbled paper over boards.  There are variants of this binding that were produced a few years after the original printing that have a blind stamped Art Nouveau design on the leather. Many of these books have split at the spine over time due to the design of the book. All copies were signed and numbered by Alice Hubbard. The limited edition above is printed on Japan Vellum, unbound and listed as an edition of 21. So this poses the question, did any of these ever get bound and sold? So we have another nice item for the avid Roycroft collector to begin searching for! This is a 1913 variant not listed in McKenna.
