Hand and Brain
A Symposium of Essays on Applied Socialism by William Morris, Grant Allen, George Bernard Shaw, Henry S. Salt, Alfred Russell Wallace and Edward Carpenter.
The book measures 9 1/4" x 5 3/4" and has 142 pages. The body of the text is Old Style Antiqua. There were 720 copies printed on Kelmscott handmade paper and some copies had hand colored initials. The book was bound in two variants, paper over boards with a cloth spine and as shown above paper over boards with a suede spine. Typically these books will be seen numbered but not signed by or for Elbert Hubbard. As can be seen on the title page and colophon, W. W. Denslow's orb and seahorse design was used and as the book was completed September 1st, 1898 it is likely that it was designed by Denslow. This book is listed in the 1899 catalog and sold for $2.00
