Rip Van Winkle

 Rip Van Winkle

by Washington Irving, 1905

#21 of 100

The book measures 7 7/8" x4 5/8" and has 48 pages. The text body is done in Old Style Antiqua and was printed on Roycroft handmade paper in 3 colors. The Japan Vellum pages of this book are in excellent condition. Unfortunately as can be seen in the pictures both the front and back covers have been repaired. It looks like they have been in the past detached at the hinge. The spine is in Very Good condition and the boards are somewhat dirty and show the typical wear and fading associated with the blues and greens in Roycroft marbleboard. The binding is firm and steady and the interior is Excellent. The capitals are designed by Dard Hunter! The Roycroft produced great Arts and Crafts items at the turn of the century. They employed many fine Artisans such as Dard Hunter, W. W. Denslow, Frederick Kranz, Axel Sahlin, Walter Jennings, Karl Kipp, Louis Kinder, Lorenz Schwartz, John Grabeau, and Harry Avery.
