Roycroft info from bottom of right page in the picture above this one.
Booklet courtesy of Richard Blacher. Comments and pictures courtesy of Paul Jackson.
undated but most likely between 1919 and 1922
The booklet measures 6 1/4" x 3 3/8" and has 23 numbered pages. This booklet is an advertisement for the Hygeia Nursing Bottle Co. Inc. of Buffalo N.Y. I suspect this booklet was included with products the company sold to spur business for other items. It has a Dr. William More Decker telling folks on page #2 that, "According to the latest available U.S. Government statistics, 234,558 babies (per year) die in the first year of life. That is 4 times the number of American soldiers killed in the recent war. Such statistics are startling and depressing. I have always held that the mortality among babies is far too great; and that when babies are properly cared for, the death rate will not exceed that of mature life. The two chief causes of high mortality are first ,improper feeding, and second lack of cleanliness in the nursing bottle." Translation: Use Hygenia products or your children will die. A bit of a ham fisted advertising approach but I am sure effective! Based upon the info in this booklet I suspect it was printed in approximately 1920.
